Power Pilates is a Pilates method using a movement-based, integrative and systematic style. Pilates, originally Contrology, is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Through this method we learn to control our power house, the muscles of the core, in order to find stability, rhythm, and alignment. The six principles according to the Power Pilates method are as follows:
1.Centering/Stabilization- Explore and understand the importance of initiating movement from a stable source. Learn how to stabilize through opposition of movement.
2.Control- Control movement paying full attention to all details in positioning and sequencing.
3.Concentration- Perform the exercises with the correct mindful intent and focus on the process of deepening awareness into the movement. It is better to do one correctly, then many poorly.
4.Flow- Efficiency of movement, learning the importance of transitioning each exercise.
5.Breath- Deepen your understanding of the importance of exhalation to stimulate breathing, facilitate core support and intensify movement. Breath equals life!
6.Precision- It is all in the details. Pay attention to the optimal alignment of the body as a whole. Practice a keen awareness during the exercises.
Power Pilates honors the legacy of Joseph H. Pilates. "Pilates taught in this style, with appropriate corrections at the appropriate time, will transform bodies and rid them of the compensatory weakness that contribute to chronic injuries."
