Did you know that when you have “perfect posture” you can appear ten pounds thinner and ten years younger? Nothing ages us faster than a stooped, shrinking posture. Our posture is one of the first things people notice about us! Slumping causes us to lose up to two inches in our body and brain. Poor posture is one of the leading causes of back pain and tension headaches. Psychologically, studies show that slouching signals insecurity, weakness and self doubt, while having good posture radiates health, vitality and confidence.
Working out or participating in sports can improve your posture by strengthening and stretching the muscles in your chest, back, abdomen and legs. However, if you are not properly aligned during fitness activities you can experience back pain, muscle straining and joint injuries, especially when doing strength training with either weights or machines. Even during sedentary activities such as driving, reading, watching TV, working at a desk or a computer, your head constantly hangs forward, instead of over the shoulders where it belongs. This is the most widespread posture problem.
