The Oaks at Ojai (California)
Have you seen the play, "Wicked"? Great show, with the apex being a song called, "Defying Gravity". Love it. Worked for her, but for me, an average 50+ gal, it's not such a reality. Aside from nipping, tucking, and lifting surgically, let's face it, just like Newton's apple, stuff on our bodies fall! Breasts, underarms, bellies, buttocks, faces- skin in general slacks over time.
We cannot really defy gravity, but can do our part to fight the aging process by:
*Drinking lots of water
*Making good nutritional choices in right amounts
*Exercising our little hearts out being sure to balance the 3 disciplines- cardio (4 hrs a week) strength (2-3x weekly) and stretch (every day)
*Understanding, Reducing, Relieving, and Controlling stress in our lives
*Getting enough sleep, even if we have to nap daily to do so
*Use external products that may reduce signs of aging
*Laughing! It's very healthy to laugh out loud
*Staying connected- there's a lot to be said for community via clubs, organizations, families, places of worship, neighborhoods, etc.
*Having a pet. Yup. They keep us busy and activity and interest help us to stay young
*Add in your own!
Once we've done what we can do reasonably, we need to take in a deep breath of acceptance. Aging is normal and natural! Every line can remind you that you're here to tell the tale of your life, so check it out with grace and gratitude!
Don't give in to discouragement by giving up with a "Why Try" mentality!
*Diet's don't work, so don't bother. Examine your eating habits carefully and be realistic about making changes that you can keep. Even lowering caloric intake by 100-200 calories daily will result in weight loss. Start making small steps in the right direction.
*Read your own "history book". Go back to places, people, and plans that have helped you in your health journey before, and avoid what has historically tripped you up!
*Redefine your current healthy ideals and make them "age appropriate"- factor in the aging process without making it an excuse.
*Be willing to get help if needed. Aging can throw us for a loop, so to gain greater understanding about the process, be willing to join a group, or use a Personal Trainer, or see a counselor or
advisor.
At the end of the day, we can't defy gravity, but we CAN do our best to fight it! So why try? Because life is a gift. Enjoy yours.
