The Heartland Spa
* Avoid guilt, the gift that goes on giving! It is also the biggest block to weight management during the during those January resolutions because it leads to all-or-nothing thinking. Since I blew my diet by eating to much pumpkin pie, I might as well have some of those Hershey Kisses too, and maybe just start over. Instead, balance a higher calorie meal with lower calorie one, or high fat day with a low fat day rather than binging or starving.
- Build planned exercise sessions into your new years resolutions. Exercise enhances you mood, cures the blues, and allows you to eat a few treats without gaining weight. Go dancing! Swing and Salsa burn mucho calories, and can be a lot more fun than walking on a treadmill.
- Don't skimp on sleep. Fatigue leads to overeating and irritability, as well as feeling too tired to make it to exercise class.
- Keep tempting foods out of sight.
- To avoid excess "tasting" while cooking, chew on a piece of gum or suck on a sugar-free candy while preparing your meals.
- Take healthy snacks to work everyday, so you can avoid the rich treats that co-workers bring.
- Have "non-problem" and lower calorie foods and beverages available for yourself and your loved ones, so everyone can make healthier choices, and still share joy in dining, without doing their diet in.
- Allow yourself one planned treat each day.
- Choose two or three specific meals or parties where you plan to indulge.
- Eat special treats s-l-o-w-l-y. If you are going to eat an 800 calorie dessert, you should be there!!
