Lighten Up this Winter!

Evidence proves what you and I have known ever since we saw our first dramatic sunset: Light is a powerful healer and can be as potent as any drug. Cold temperatures usually send us indoors which limits our exposure to natural sunlight. This can lead to depression. Exposing yourself to a blue light will make your pulse rate slow, your breathing relax, and stimulate your adrenal glands and immune system. A red light heightens your sense of smell and taste. It also awakens your libido by stimulating all the endocrine glands. Energy levels sore, blood flow increases, and metabolic rates rise.

Try getting some clip lights at your hardware store and duct tape a blue or red plastic gel on the frame. Clip the red light to shine on you while you use your treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical, etc. Clip the blue light to shine on you while you meditate, watch TV, relax in the bathtub etc. You will feel the effects in just 20-30 minutes.

Another trick - Try visualizing blue (if you need to relax) or red (if you need energy). Close your eyes and imagine being bathed in color. The effect is the same as if the color was really coming from the outside!
