The Oaks at Ojai (California)
It occurred to me yesterday morning as I was reading the newspaper's front page article about the declining life expectancy of women in the United States that life is what you get after you make all of your choices---eventually. Choosing is preceded by viewing your possibilities and is followed by intention and action.
The issue for so many of us is that we don't always stay conscious to that fact that it takes all of the steps to create anything in our lives. Reading the article on life expectancy and, later in the day, an article about the effects of soft drinks on health brought all of this forward for me.
Some parts of the country continue to have upswings in life expectancy and guess where they are? They are in places that people "choose", places that people find, whether by accident or by design, and they are places focused on health and wellness. Usually they involve a lot of outdoor time, networking with friends and good access to healthful food. It is not by accident that we surround ourselves with people of like mind.
People who continue to take actions that do not forward their well being are choosing not to "locate" their health. The continual consumption of soft drinks (regular or "diet"), for example, is choosing an increased risk of heart attack, cholesterol problems, the ill effects of high glucose levels, increased levels of heart disease, weight gain and a shorter life. Fast food, inactivity and a crushing lack of general vitality are gaining a place in this nation, and it is up to us to transform this. It always starts with one person. Let that person be you!
Your "location" does not have to be a particular physical place, although it tends to help to have all of the support you can garner when you are trying to establish new habits. The most important part of the equation is "you". Choose health, choose activity, choose foods that are fresh and from whole grains, choose to serve yourself. In being the most healthy person you can be, you serve everyone around you. You will be more alert, more available, more energetic and happier. Why would any of us choose otherwise?
All of this mulled mind activity of mine led me around to the fact that I am grateful to work and thrive in a business that promotes health and well being. I become increasingly present to the fact that each spa guest has explored their possibilities, made their choice, set an intention and acted upon it when choosing a spa vacation. They have each "located" themselves in a place where they know they will care for and nurture themselves. Location, location, location. Consider it your best investment in your health estate to experience a way of being that gives meaning to the word "longevity"! Be well!
