Most people practice the art of self massage, whether it be in the form of rubbing your forehead when you have a headache, scrubbing yourself with a loofah sponge in the shower or rubbing your feet after a long day. These are all simple and natural self massage techniques.
Getting in touch with your body can function as a meditation, enabling you to better connect with your inner feelings. Therapeutic touch also helps you to relax and release muscle and emotional tension.
My favorite method of self-massage is to pummel my body everyday. Simply form both hands into fists and gently thump the outside of your body, your legs and your arms from top to bottom. Then move to the inside and pummel from bottom to top—this follows the natural flow of energy within the body. Pummeling on your muscles and bones will help strengthen the body, stimulate blood circulation and relax nerve ending.
Another great self-massage technique is to rub your belly in a clockwise direction. This action aids the digestive system to promote cleansing, helps to dissolve cellulite and water retention, relieves gas and calms nerves.
These self-massage practices can be done both in the morning to awaken and prepare the body or before going to sleep to calm and nurture yourself.
