The Heartland Spa
We are courting nutritional disaster when we indulge in many of the offerings at shopping malls, airports, and sports arenas. Most of us struggle hard to overcome the weight gain that our sedentary lifestyle invites by trying to exercise at least a few days a week. But often we burn only 250 - 500 calories per session, which is nothing compared to the calorie counts on some of the "big ticket" items on the food court menus. Nutrition Action Magazine recently assessed the calorie content of some of the most popular selections. After seeing these, you'll want to bring your own meals and snacks when you shop or travel. Here goes the calorie count:

Sbarro: Spinach and Broccoli Stuffed Pizza 710; Baked Ziti 830

Schlotzsky's Deli Sandwiches: Corned Beef Rueben 830; Ham and Cheese 790; Turkey and Bacon Club 1790

Starbucks: White Chocolate Mocha with whole milk 480; Cafe'Mocha 530; Cappuccino with skim milk 110

Mrs. Fields: Semi-sweet Chocolate Chip Cookie with walnuts 310; Frosted Fudge Brownie 440

Cinnabons: Cinnabon 670

Au Bon Pain: Pecan Roll 770; Almond Croissant 570; Oreo Cookie Bar 550

TCBY: Large Waffle Cone 460; Regular Cup 270; Small Cup 200

Haagen-Dazs: 1 Scoop Chocolate Swiss Almond Ice Cream 300; 2 Scoops Vanilla 540; Sorbet 120

Best Advice: walk on by! Keep on shopping! If you buy too much stuff, you can always return it. Mrs. Fields cookies and Cinnabons are not returnable! However, if you slip up, you can always return to the Heartland. We will always take you back until you get it right.
