The Hills Health Ranch
In spite of the ever-increasing fads in dieting and nutrition, The Hills Health Ranch, near 100 Mile House, British Columbia, remains strongly committed to their highly successful and flavourful approach to nutrition and healthy eating.
Serving healthy food is a major area of concerted management at The Hills Health Ranch, from the incorporation of natural and organic foods, to presentation, to the exclusion of certain foods containing chemical preservatives. This, coupled with their mandate and desire to provide guests with a wide variety of delicious, low-fat meals enables staff to reach and exceed the nutritional philosophy goals.
The resort's full-time Wellness Director and Nutritionist, Regula Wittmer, coordinates with the kitchen staff a continuing philosophy of healthy food service. Regula stated, "We focus on a recommended ratio of carbohydrates to be 60%, protein 20%, and fat at 20%. We encourage seeking a personalized caloric level and eating plan that fits into individual lifestyles without creating feelings of deprivation."
Creativity and imagination are also essential ingredients. "Guests are delighted to discover they can enjoy an ‘all you can eat fondue' in our 1871 Lodge," commented Pat Corbett, President, The Hills Health Ranch. "All the meats are cooked in a non-fat sauce, and therefore the grams of fat in the meals are low compared to traditional ‘fine dining.'"
The Hills Health Ranch opened in June of 1985, envisioned and designed as the first year round health and fitness vacation resort built in Canada. Since then, The Hills Health Ranch has continued to create innovative health and wellness programs and packages that teach guests new ways to improve their overall well-being for a healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle.
