You may have seen striptease and pole dancing on Oprah. Perhaps you read about them in the July issue of the Chicago Tribune. Several sitcoms have featured them as well. "...empowering, sensual, exotic." These forms of dance made their way into the fitness industry and have swept the nation. When a new trend makes its debut, The Heartland Spa is on it. We do our research and determine if it's a good fit for our facility and our guests. A striptease class seemed a little too risky for our low-key wellness facility. However, a casual conversation with a group of guests reminded us that The Heartland is the best place to try something new so why not striptease aerobics! We compromised and came up with our own "Heartland" version.
Our class, Body Express, was influenced by Trisha Murphy's Urban Striptease. The workout is similar to a low-impact aerobics class. The movement is slow with an emphasis on rolling the body and isolating the chest and hips. When describing it to our guests we say, "No clothing is removed! It's rated PG but you can make it PG-13 if you want!" The smoother motion feels good. It loosens tight muscles of the back and hips. Strength moves such as pli?s and push-ups are blended right into the flow of the routine and, before you know it, you've worked up a sweat. It's a good workout-different and fun, (we giggle a lot!)-and by the end of the class, you've discovered a whole new way to express yourself!
