What to Expect at a Destination Spa

Destination spas are resort properties that offer deluxe overnight accommodations and spa services on site. These spas are typically designed with a certain theme, and may use their own signature product lines for treatments. Many destination spas also offer recreational activities and fitness packages; you can sign up for yoga classes, head out on a mountain hike or take meditation classes in a designated area of the facility. Here are some other things you can expect when traveling to a destination spa:

1. Lifestyle programming services. Many destination spas offer total health, nutrition and body wellness programs in hopes of teaching and guiding guests with classes and demonstrations. You may have the option of picking up a package of classes or signing up for a full-day educational seminar.

2. Planned itineraries. If you purchase a package from the destination spa, your itinerary may already be planned for you. All you need to do is take along the right clothes for each activity on the schedule, and attend various rooms and relaxation areas to participate. These are helpful for people who don’t want to plan their visit.

3. Full access to spa amenities. Almost all areas will be accessible for overnight guests at a destination spa, which means you can make the most of your stay by visiting whirlpools, hot tubs, saunas, outdoor pools or even visit the yoga pavilion. Overnight guests may also be granted discounts to special programs or events; check with the concierge to find out what your stay is eligible for.

4. Plush rooms and deluxe amenities. Almost all destination spas fall in the upscale resort category, which means you can expect four or five-star service throughout your stay.

5. Town car services. Since most destination spas are built in secluded areas of a city or countryside, you can head to the city or nearest town with chauffeured town car services. Check with the concierge desk to learn more.
